Description
Pinguicula orchidioides carries a complex taxonomic history, having been originally documented in 1844, subsequently misidentified and overlooked, then reintroduced under an alternate name before being seen as synonymous with P. stolonifera.
This Mexican butterwort inhabits the mountainous regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Guatemala. It stands apart through its production of stolons during active growth - horizontal runners that develop into independent plants, facilitating natural propagation. The species enters winter dormancy via a compact resting bud.
