Description
Pinguicula medusina earned independent species status in 2000, having previously been classified as a variant of P. heterophylla. This gypsum-dwelling butterwort originates from the Laguna Encantada region in Oaxaca, Mexico, where it thrives in specialized soil conditions.
The species demonstrates an efficient vegetative reproduction strategy, generating small plantlets along the edges of its carnivorous leaves. A defining characteristic is its winter adaptation - the plant develops an underground bulb during dormant months, enabling survival through seasonal environmental shifts before returning to active growth.
- Skill Level: Easy.
- Light: Min 1 hour direct sun, max all day.
- Water: Fill tray, keep in water at all times.
- Dormancy: Succulent phase with smaller leaves in winter, reduce watering by half allowing tray to dry between watering's for max 1 day.
- Pot Size 5.5cm.
