Description
Native to the cloud forests of northern Oaxaca, Pinguicula hemiepiphytica is a specialized epiphytic butterwort that grows naturally on moss-laden tree trunks within complex forest ecosystems. Scientifically distinguished from P. moranensis in 1991.
This species exhibits pronounced seasonal leaf polymorphism - producing rounded summer leaves and narrow winter rosettes in response to its montane environment. Inhabiting steep, moisture-rich slopes at 1,900–2,300 meters elevation in the Sierra de Juárez, this species demands the humid, well-draining conditions characteristic of its native habitat.
