Sarracenia rubra ssp. rubra, commonly known as the sweet pitcher plant, is a smaller variety originating from the south-eastern United States. Known for its condensed growth pattern and striking red veining on its pitchers, this species prefers boggy regions with acidic, mucky soil. Its unique flower emits a sweet raspberry scent and has dark red petals.
Sowing instructions:
- Sow on top of growing media, either peat of sphagnum can be used.
- Ensure good airflow too prevent mould growing on the surface of the media.
- Keep pot in bright lights to full sun.
- Once you have sowed the seed place the pot in a zip-lock bag in the fridge for 3 months to simulate winter to ensure best germination results.
- If the pot is ready before spring ensure the pot stays warm (like in the house) through Autumn and Winter to ensure you don't lose your seedling before they establish themselves as plants.
- Keep the pot standing in water at all times so the seed/seedling don't dry out.
- Harvested 2025
