Drosera - Tropical Sundews - Growing Instructions
Temperate Sundews (Drosera)
Tropical sundews represent a specialized branch of carnivorous plants, thriving in warm, humid rainforest environments without dormancy.
They lure, capture, and digest insects using the stalked glands covering their leaf surfaces
Watering
Please keep my tray full with water all the time, right throughout the year. I come from areas that are always damp, like next to waterfalls and streams. I like it very wet. It’s best to just fill my tray, my special soil mix will give me what I need.
Light
Only partly sunny for me, I prefer to not spend too much time in it.
Where to Keep Me
I thrive in high humidity and I need to be indoors as I don't want to go below 10°C, some of us want to even be above 18°C all year round. This makes us great candidates for life in a tank.
Dormancy
As I want to be warm all year, I don't have any dormancy, this is why I can't tolerate being outside in the cold.
Feeding
I will catch my own food, but feel free to drop something on my leaves. I love flies, spiders and any other bugs. Please do not use fertilisers on me as a lot will harm me more than they will help me.
Soil Recipe
I live in a mix of sphagnum peat moss and sand. Some people like to use long fiber sphagnum, the one from NZ is the best in the world I hear. If you need to repot me, please do not use regular soil, I will not survive.
