The Sarracenia psittacina, commonly referred to as the Parrot Pitcher Plant, is a highly distinctive species. Its pitchers protrude outward and have a distinctive "hood" shape. This plant is uniquely adapted to its natural habitat, where it is seasonally submerged in water and is capable of capturing aquatic prey. The deep purple-red colouring of the plant is adorned with numerous white light-windows, giving its large, spherical hoods a striking appearance.
