Collection: Passiflora Foetida - Passion Fruit
Passiflora foetida, commonly known as love-in-a-mist passion fruit, is a creeping vine native to the southwestern USA, Caribbean, Central America, and much of South America. The 5-6 cm diameter flowers range from white to pale purple, and the fruit is edible reaching 2-3cm in diameter.
This unique plant also has a fascinating ability to trap insects on its bracts, using a sticky substance with digestive enzymes to minimize predation on its flowers and fruits. While it is unsure if it gains nourishment from its prey, it is considered a protocarnivorous plant.
