Love-In-A-Mist Passion Fruit (Passiflora foetida) Growing Instructions

Love-In-A-Mist Passion Fruit (Passiflora foetida)

These are a creeping vine native to the southwestern USA, Caribbean, Central America, and much of South America. The flowers (5-6cm) range from white to pale purple, and the fruit is edible.

This unique plant also has a fascinating ability to trap insects on its bracts, using a sticky substance with digestive enzymes to minimize predation on its flowers and fruits. While it is unsure if it gains nourishment from its prey, it is considered a protocarnivorous plant.

Watering

Please give me consistent watering if you want me to thrive. I need at least 2.5-4cm water from above every week. I come from a tropical area where it rains a lot.

Light

To develop and blossom appropriately, I require a lot of sunlight. A minimum of 4 hours of direct sunshine with some midday shade is ideal.

To keep me happy in colder areas or indoors, I need at least at least six-hour shifts of direct sunlight please.

Where to Keep Me

I'm sensitive to cold and should be brought inside if the heat in your garden falls below 10°C in the winter.

Dormancy

I may slow down a little when it’s colder but I will grow year-round. This way you can show me off to your friends any time you like.

Feeding

I am not carnivorous, I just catch bugs to stop them eating my flowers and fruit. My passionfruit are edible so fell free to enjoy them.

Soil Recipe

I just need consistent humidity and well-drained soil. Regular potting soil with a little bit of compost is my favourite, with a pH of 5-6.
